On the occasion of the visits of the German Foreign Minister and German Environment Minister in India this week, Shyam Saran, India's chief climate treaty negotiator, talks to Spiegel about the climate situation in India, notably about emissions reduction, the consequences of Barack Obama's elections for the climate change negotiations and a potential cooperation on solar energy with Germany.

Among the ambitious measures announced by the new US President-elect Barak Obama: a climate change and energy bill, GHG emissions reduction by 80% by 2050, a cap-and-trade system on the European example, 5 million new green jobs created thanks to the $175 billion economic-stimulus package... Talking of the "planet in peril" in his acceptance speech, Barak Obama will send his own representatives to Poznan.
